Frequently Asked Questions

What if I really hate the completed master?
We offer a 100% money-back guarantee!  We KNOW you'll love the completed masters!

Why are you so cheap?
We use only software-based digital equipment which means our operating costs are low.

How long does the whole process take?
Once you send us your recording we will get to work and send you instructions on how to download the completed masters within 5 business days.

What kind of things will I notice after you've mastered my recording?
You can expect to hear more definition, clarity and depth in your recording.  Your recording will also be a more similar volume to most major label recordings so that it will not sound out of place when played after a professional recording.

What forms of payment do you accept?
At this time we only accept PayPal ( www.paypal.com ).

What if I don't like your mastering job?
We're positive that you will like how we master your recording.  However, if upon hearing your completed master you would like something modified, you can request any changes you wish.  We will be happy to re-master your recording using your instructions at a discounted cost of $10 per song.

How can I explain what kind of sound I'm after?
We are normally able to master your recordings to match similar professional recordings in the same genre of your work.  However, if you have a specific sound in mind, you can send us a .wav file of a commercially available recording (i.e. a major label release) and we will do our best to sonically match your songs to that example.

What level should my mixed down album be set at? ( for example -5db)
If you can get your mix close to -2db without peaking, that would be great.  We can adjust the volume of the track during the mastering process.

Do you have any samples of any mastering work you've done, so i can here first hand the service that you offer?
Sure!  Here is a link to recently completed track (my own, actually)

Will you add compression and equalization to tighten up the mix and add definition?
Absolutely.  We will do our best to not over-compress the track, but equalization through harmonic balancing will bring about the biggest audible difference in your mix.  If you can send us a wave file of a track that you would like your tracks to sound like (a major lable release, etc), then we can use that as a harmonic guide.

Can you make a collection of songs sound more like a cohesive album rather than just a random collection of songs?
If the instrumentation is similar on each track, absolutely.

Will you provide a secure FTP in which to upload my wav files?
You will receive your own unique FTP login account.

What type of software based mastering program do you use in the studio?
We use a variety of software applications, including T-Racks and SoundForge

What is harmonic balancing?
Harominc Balancing is taking the EQ levels for each frequency and making sure they are in sync with what is pleasing to hear.  It's a combined graphic and aural process.  We can take an existing mix that you like the sound of and then use that to EQ your track to match the amount of energy in each frequency.  That means the bottom end will be similar, the top end will be similar, etc.

What will gives the best sound, and what do you prefer/accept? (example 16bit versus 24bit, or 44.1 and 48khz)
16bit & 44.1khz will be fine.  All tracks are mastered to 44.1khz.

Can I order from anywhere in the world?
Yes!

Do I REALLY need to master my recordings?
Yes!  Thanks to new affordable technology, more music than ever before is being recorded in small or home studios.  These recordings have the ability to sound great, but they need the extra push that professional audio mastering can provide to make them sound as good as they can.

Couldn't I just do this myself?
You could, but one of the benefits of having a third-party master your recording is as simple as fresh ears.  We know that spending hours on a mix can turn into a real 'can't see the forest for the trees' situation.  We know what sounds good and we want your recording to sound great.

Are there any hidden costs or fees?
No!
